    Epic Eldar

    August 23rd, 2008

Well GenCon was insane but not as insane as my gaming table at the moment.

I was wandering through Bartertown recently and noticed an ad for a painted Epic Eldar army that including two Revenants and seven of the new Eldar SHTs.  The price for the entire army was less than the Canadian retail for the Titans and the SHTs so I snapped it up.

The army is a little light on Aspect Warriors so I am basing up and plan to paint a eight stands of Banshees, Swooping Hawks, Dark Reapers and some additional Exarchs for things like the Fire Warriors and Dire Avengers.

I picked up two of the new Avatars and am using the Exarchs from there for my Aspect Warriors stands. Sadly there aren’t metal Exarchs for each Aspect. One of the Avatar bases is going to be repurposed for my Autarch.

Everything is based and I am going to be adding a coat of sand and then priming everything today or tomorrow. Once that is done I will be using the new GW washes on many of the models (especially the Swooping Hawks) to paint them all up quickly.

One problem though is that this means that I have to rebase all the infantry in the army to match the new bases I will paint but even with that added work in a few weeks I’ll have a huge painted Eldar force. Epic army #4 will soon be ready to game :-)

    Epic CSM test game

    August 4th, 2008

Pawel brought over his Ork horde today and we managed to get in three turns of an Epic: Armageddon game using some of the suggested tweaks to the official CSM list. I managed to take a few photos from the game.

I’ll get Pawel’s list later but my CSM force was

    • LR formation with new AA tank (Stalker)
    • Chosen with DP, 3 x Obliterators
    • Khorne Retinue with Chaos Champion, Icon Bearer, Daemonic Pact and Bezerkers
    • Slaanesh Retinue with Noise Marines, Stalker and Rhinos
    • Hell Talons
    • Hell Blades
    • Death Wheel
    • Daemon Pool with 1 x GD and 8 x LD

    All done… almost

    August 3rd, 2008

So 54 stands of Epic troops (and one new objective) based and ready to be sealed tomorrow. Hopefully they will be dry for the game at 11 :-)

Next I am going to start work on the terrain for the painting challenge and also finish up the Chaos Champion and Icon Bearer stands for the army. I also finished assmebling and modifying the Banelord Titan, two Death Wheels and two Decimators and so those will be ready to paint soon.

    Death Wheels

    July 31st, 2008

While I was working on getting my daemons based today I received my Death Wheels and Decimators in the mail. One of the fellows on the TacComms Epic message board casts them in resin and I picked a pair of each up from him.

The Decimators look great as is (I did repaced the gun turrets on the model with some metal BFG turrets) but I couldn’t resist adding some additional detail to the Death Wheels to make them look a bit more chaotic. I’ll post pictures of them when I get them painted.

Sadly that won’t be in time for the game we are having this weekend. I do hope to have my Reaver Titan ready to game with though. Unpainted it will be but asselmbled and modified to make it look more chaotic.

54 stands of models to base

    July 29th, 2008

I figured that I should take some time to base some figures before I swamped myself with too many minis to base. Currently there are 54 stands of Epic figs on a try drying before I add some Valejjo Flat Earth to them and finish them off with some drybrushing and touches of static grass. I need to stop painting

    July 24th, 2008

Not for any negative reasons but because I have far too many Epic stands to base and if I don’t stop to do them I will have an insurmountable task ahead of me.

    So far I have painted

    • 11 stands of Noise Marines
    • 12 Daemonette stands
    • 7 Mounted Daemonette stands
    • 8 Flamer stands
    • 8 Death Guard stands
    • 5 Plaguebearer stands

So its probably a good idea to stop and base those 51 stands of troops before I finish painting the rest :-)

    Epic painting continues

    July 20th, 2008

Eight stands of Death Guard, one Champion of Nurgle and five stands of Plaguebearers join the ever growing pile of minis that are waiting to be based.

I think I need to slow down so there is something for me to paint for the next painting challenge.

    Daemons

    July 20th, 2008

Four more Daemonette stands and two more Mounted Daemonette stands added to the basing tray last night. I have four stands of Plaguebeaers on the paint table as well. Once done I should have at least 50 stands of epic daemons and 10 Greater Daemons.

I am also working on getting some of the Warmaster Screamers to add a few stands of those as well.

More than enough daemons for the warp rift scenario :-)

    Warp Rift Epic scenario

    July 20th, 2008

First draft of the Warp Rift scenario for Epic. Comments and suggested changes are appreciated.

They started slowly. Cultists and a Chaos Sorcerors working sereptiously in the night, all across the continent, creating small parts of a larger artifact, storing the pieces during the day away from prying eyes. Slowly it grew and bands of cowled men traveled at night, ferrying their contribution to the artifact to the assembly site. It took months of slow agonizing labour to build. And almost as long to transport the various parts from the various workshops, pits and underhive hovels they were built in.

Days before the final parts arrived sensors in the outer rim of the system reported a fleet of heretic craft plunging from the warp into realspace. Their path was direct and obvious. Swatting the local defence fleet aside as if it was a gnat the Chaos spacecraft made orbit and a foul flood of landing craft disgorged a motley army or renegades and their vehicles to surround and protect the construction site.

Imperial forces on the ground, and their other allies, reacted quickly and have moved into place to attack the artifact. Inquisitors from the Ordo Malleus were also in place, scrying the artifact and determining that the device had only one purpose; to rip a hole in reality and connect the planet to the Warp. Such a Warp Rift would allow free access to all manner of daemons and warpbeasts. This information spurred on the Imperial force even more. If the rift were to be activated and enough warp energy pulled through the portal would become permanent and the planet would be awash with daemons and the slaughter would be endless.

    Painting continues

    July 18th, 2008

So I have managed to get quite a few stands of minis done. So far five stands of mounted Daemonettes and eight stands of Daemonettes are done. I assembled two more mounted and four more regular Damonette stands as I have a scenario/demo game that I want to run that will require a lot of daemons :-)

    Still on the painting stand:
    Eight stands of Death Guard
    Three retinues of World Eaters
    Eight stands of Plaguebearers
    Two Icon Bearers
    Three Chaos Champion stands

I’ve also placed an order for several blisters of Warmaster Screamers and Chaos Champion figures to use as Deamon Princes.

We’re going to be doing another painting challenge here locally adn I think that getting this vast pile of Chaos figures may be my challenge
